   If you have a current license for Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium 12 or 13, we advise upgrading to Dragon Professional Individual 14.

   The main features that have been removed from Dragon Professional Individual that were included in Dragon Professional 13 are remote desktop connection and the roaming user feature.

   This topic describes enhancements and new features in Dragon version 14.

   Command enhancements

   Auto-text commands

   Auto-text is a block of content that you specify - including text, graphics, or both - for which you create a custom voice command. In your dictation, when you say the command, Dragon enters your content. You create new auto-text commands using the New Auto-Text Command dialog box. From the DragonBar, select Tools > Add New Auto-Text.

   Manage your custom commands in one place

   The Manage Custom Commands dialog lists all commands you have created, along with links to edit or delete them, or to create new ones. To access the dialog box, select Tools > Manage Custom Commands from the DragonBar.

   Windows 10 commands

   There are new commands for the Action Center, Settings screen, and Start button for Windows 10.

   Dictation enhancements

   Enhanced Dictation Box

   The following enhancements have been made to the Dictation Box:
   •The user interface design is now simpler and easier to use.
   •There is a new Use automatic Dictation Box for this application check box. This check box allows you to turn the Dictation Box on or off for specific applications.
   •Dragon no longer prompts you to save text when you click the Cancel button.
   •The Dictation Box is now resizable.
   •There is now a minimum size. You cannot make the Dictation Box smaller than the minimum size.
   •The Show character count setting is now deselected by default.

   General enhancements
   •When you close the Administrative Settings dialog box, Dragon now re-opens your user profile automatically.
   •Dragon no longer prompts you to save your user profile when you make changes to it.
   •DragonBar usability is now optimized for touchscreen use.

   •You can now link your desktop version of Dragon to your Dragon Anywhere account and share words and commands with your desktop version.

   
   Installation and upgrade enhancements

   Region selection

   During the Dragon DVD installation, you can now choose to install only the files for your region, or all regions. This allows you to use less disk space when installing Dragon, and reduces the installation time required.

   User profile upgrade

   Dragon now opens user profiles in the version 13 directory without upgrading them.

   Software versions

   Dragon can now support Microsoft Windows 10.

   Transcription enhancements

   Improvements to the transcription source

   Improvements to the transcription process produce more accurate transcription results for recorded dictation. You can now create a transcription source separate from your live dictation source.

   Streamlined transcription of recorded dictation

   The steps required to transcribe a recording have been streamlined to make the process faster and easier. Note that you must have a transcription source before you can transcribe your recordings.

   Usability enhancements

   Help redesign and optimization

   The following enhancements have been made to the Dragon Help:
   •Help content was rewritten and made simpler to more clearly explain Dragon’s functionality, and to make information easier to find.
   •The Search capability is now optimized to return more accurate search results relevant to search key words.
   •Interactive video tutorials are now available. These address commonly asked questions and several key Dragon features.
   •The Help user interface was redesigned and is now modern and easy-to-use.
   •The Help system is now on the Web.

   What Can I Say?

   You can now say “What Can I Say?” at any time to get a list of Dragon commands appropriate for your current activity. Dragon reminds you to use this command; you’ll see the reminder when you first log in.

   You can use “What Can I Say?” when you’re in:
   •Applications, like Microsoft Word
   •Web browsers (Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox)
   •Windows Desktop

   The commands are grouped by function, like navigation and formatting.

   
   

   The What Can I Say command replaces the Learning Center.

The Samson Airline Micro Camera Edition is a new wrinkle on the Samson Airline Micro which is a popular small portable wireless microphone with one limitation; it includes a non-replaceable wireless microphone. The biggest advantage of the new Samson Airline Micro Camera is that it will allow you to convert any analog microphone (terminating in a standard 1/8 inch plug) into a wireless microphone. Our favorite microphones, to pair with the AirLine Micro are the FlexyMike SE and FlexyMike DE headsets because they're very lightweight and comfortable, as well as accurate. The Samson AirLine Micro Camera is a completely self-contained wireless unit which includes built-in rechargeable NiMH batteries in the transmitter and receiver. It has professional look and feel, is very small and doesn’t require an AC outlet. The transmitter includes a belt clip but it is so small, we prefer to drop it into any available pocket.

Not giving up on Dragon NaturallySpeaking

Knowbrainer kept me from giving up on Dragon NaturallySpeaking

On December 28, 1996, while skiing on a mountain in Western
Maryland, I suffered a hemorrhagic brain stem stroke. I spent six and a half
weeks in hospitals followed by eight years of accomplishing nothing. Brain
damage left me with mental deficits and took away nearly all of my skill
sets. My body escaped unharmed, only affected by misguided signals coming
from my brain. However, I am left with Cerebellar ataxia, which causes the
left side of my body to be clumsy. Even my eyeball is adversely affected.

In 2004, as a form of therapy, I wanted to write a Journal. However,
I could do longer write with my hand; and lacked the hand eye coordination
necessary for typing. I purchased a product called Dragon NaturallySpeaking
that would allow me to speak into the computer. My first challenge was
created by my brain that would twist words before they reached my mouth.
After years of practice, I still have problems with missing syllables, but
major words sometimes come slow, but they come.

Nuance makes the best voice recognition product on the market.
Earlier versions were tricky and vulnerable to computer issues. Customer
support was short of excellent. They tried, but were not always able to solve
my problems. When version 12 rolled out most of my technical problems
disappeared. But, I would never have made it to version 12 without the
support of www.knowbrainer.com.

While googling support forums for voice recognition, I happened
across a post on a website called www.knowbrainer.com. What I found there
boggled my mind. It was a forum where thousands of voice recognition
users traded information. I found a resource destined to take my voice
recognition to a whole new level.

Often, forum users find their questions answered by Lunis Orcutt,
who owns the company. He focuses much of his time helping users navigate
through a maze of technical issues. His goal is to provide speech recognition
users with the information necessary to put together the optimum
supporting PC environment.

Today was my first full day of using a SpeechWare FlexyMike SE (single ear) microphone in the office and in exam rooms. I used it with a Buddy 7G. I was very impressed with its design and build quality. Even with glasses, it was very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time and did well staying in the position set. It was quick to place on and remove. The travel case was very nice. Subjectively I perceived accuracy as excellent. I felt it was even more accurate than my audio-technica PRO8HEmW. In my opinion this microphone is a bargain for what you get. I highly recommend the SpeechWare FlexyMike.

SpeechWare TravelMike - Physicians Review

After an initial rough start (defective TravelMike mini gooseneck microphone - a rare occurence; and Dragon User Profile set up issues - my fault), I am pleased to have the SpeechWare TravelMike doing extraordinarily well on its own User Profile in green mode. I am amazed at how well DMPE2/TravelMike does at learning pronounciation and new vocabulary; it usually needs only one correction to learn my pronounciation or new vocabulary. It seems to me to do better at many of the common troublesome words I have struggled with on several other sound systems such as "fibrillation, voltages, spironolactone, hypertrophy, cardiomyopathy, electrocardiographically, electocardiogram, echocardiogram, wander, etc.. In other words, it has been the fastest to train sound system I have ever used. Perhaps some of this is due to more experience on my part at training new words and phrases (or maybe Dragon training me).
I never thought it would be possible for a small speech recognition sound pod to rival or equal the accuracy of a much more expensive pro-audio system, but subjectively it is my experiece that the SpeechWare TravelMike has done it.
The smaller form factor makes it even easier to carry around than the Buddy 7G/audio-technica PRO 8HEmW when going from exam room to exam room. More comfortable and faster than a headset too. The TravelMike has become my new favorate for use in exam rooms. The addition of a pivoting 90 degree USB elbow connector would make it perfect.
I just recently placed an order for a SpeechWare FlexyMike single ear from Lunis. The design and specifications suggest this microphone will be fantastic for those times I will be beyond the useable distance of the TravelMike.
